Current Dual-Wield Rules
Dual wielding is one of the most important systems to track because recent official patch notes changed several weapon interactions. These notes are confirmed from official update material, but exact build strength still needs in-game testing.
Confirmed Rules
- Staff plus another weapon now has a 60% less damage penalty; the previous penalty was 50%.
- Equipping a two-handed weapon plus another weapon without the correct unlocked bonus can reduce damage to 1.
- Mage dual-wield passive now reduces Magic Attack, Physical Attack, Fire Damage, Ice Damage and Lightning Damage to 60% while active.
- Dark Mage Pyromancy can use two staves when using the matching set, removing the normal restriction.
- Several Dark Mage two-weapon bugs were fixed in recent updates, so old dual-wield advice may be outdated.
What This Means For Mage
Mage is still one of the most important dual-wield test classes, but the v0.5.0 change means players should not assume dual wielding is automatically stronger than a simpler single-weapon setup.
- Compare single weapon and dual wield on the same enemy type.
- Record elemental damage changes separately for Fire, Ice and Lightning.
- Check whether soul charges or gear bonuses offset the listed penalty.
What This Means For Dark Mage
Dark Mage deserves separate testing because Pyromancy has a special dual-staff exception. That exception should not be generalized to other classes unless the game UI confirms it.
- Test Pyromancy with one staff and two staves.
- Track whether Void Ground changes with weapon setup.
- Record if the matching set is required before dual-staff behavior works.
Testing Checklist
- Test against the same enemy, at the same level, with the same gear quality where possible.
- Record tooltip stats and observed hit damage separately.
- Check whether skills, basic attacks and damage-over-time effects all follow the same penalty.
- Retest after every patch that mentions weapons, Mage, Dark Mage, skill cooldowns or Blacksmith changes.
